A major exhibition on Leonardo Da Vinci in Montepulciano
At the Fortezza and the Giardino di Poggiofanti
From 14th May to 17th September 2017

Info 0039 0577 286300 – www.fondazionecantiere.it
The exhibition has two locations:
La Fortezza: hosts the reproductions of Leonardo’s machines;
Giardino di Poggiofanti: here there is an extraordinary 1:1 scale reconstruction of the Equestrian Monument, 7,80 meter high and 20,000 kg weight, built in memory of Francesco Sforza. The rebuilding of the huge horse is characterised by its fidelity to Leonardo’s designs.
Leonardo da Vinci: Visions is the result of the experience of the following exhibitions: Gli ingegneri del Rinascimento [The Engineers of the Renaissance] (1995), L’automobile di Leonardo [Leonardo’s Automobile] (2004) and La mente di Leonardo [The mind of Leonardo] (2006), which were conceived by the Museo Galileo in Florence and curated by its Director, Prof. Paolo Galluzzi.
Visions is an invitation to explore Leonardo da Vinci’s thought and his conception of knowledge, as an effort to assimilate the laws governing man and nature.
The exhibition features some of Leonardo’s ambitious projects, which illustrate his inclination to put himself to the test by taking on highly complex subjects. Man’s dream since ancient times, flight takes shape in his studies and in the machines he devised. Leonardo also tackled the idea of providing motion to inanimate objects: the self-propelled cart and the mechanical lion bear powerful witness to the results with a highly innovative potential that he was able to achieve.
